Gulmarg – India's Premier Mountain Destination

Gulmarg, meaning 'Meadow of Flowers', sits at 8,694 feet in the Pir Panjal range, just 51 km from Srinagar. It's home to the world's second-highest operating cable car (Gulmarg Gondola) and India's best skiing slopes. Originally a royal retreat for Mughal emperors, Gulmarg today attracts over 1 million visitors annually for its stunning alpine scenery, adventure sports, and one of the world's highest green golf courses.

Gulmarg Gondola – Asia's Highest Cable Car

The Gulmarg Gondola operates in two phases. Phase 1 takes you from Gulmarg (2,690m) to Kongdoori (3,080m) — a 5-minute ride offering panoramic views. Phase 2 goes from Kongdoori to Apharwat Peak (3,950m) — where you can see Nanga Parbat on clear days. In winter, Phase 2 is the starting point for expert skiing. Tickets cost ₹740 for Phase 1 and ₹1,500 for both phases. Arrive before 10 AM to avoid long queues, especially in peak season.

Skiing in Gulmarg – India's Best Slopes

Gulmarg's skiing season runs from mid-December to mid-March. Beginners can learn at the gentle slopes near Kongdoori with certified instructors (₹2,000-3,000 per session). Intermediate and expert skiers access pristine powder runs from Phase 2. Equipment rental is available at the base (₹1,500-2,500/day for complete gear). The Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering offers professional courses. Heli-skiing is available for advanced skiers seeking untouched powder — one of the few places in Asia offering this experience.

Summer Activities in Gulmarg

Summer (May–September) transforms Gulmarg into a lush green meadow dotted with wildflowers. Play at the highest green golf course in the world (par-72, 18 holes). Take pony rides through the alpine meadows to Khilanmarg (a 3 km trek with stunning views). Visit Alpather Lake, a frozen mountain lake at 4,390m. The Outer Circular Walk is a 12 km trail circling the entire Gulmarg bowl — one of the most scenic walks in India.

How to Reach Gulmarg

From Srinagar Airport: 56 km, approximately 1.5-2 hours by road. The road is well-maintained but winding after Tangmarg. In winter, snow chains may be required for the last 13 km from Tangmarg to Gulmarg. We provide experienced drivers familiar with winter driving. Private taxis from Srinagar cost ₹2,500-3,500 one way. Our packages include airport pickup and all transfers.
